An extension, porch and new Passivhaus studio for this Grade II listed cottage in Gloucestershire. The new super-insulated timber-clad extension to the rear of the cottage helps reconfigure the interior layout to re-orientate the main living areas onto the sun-facing garden while providing additional accessible accommodation for a disabled relative. The new studio outbuilding for the photographer client helps enclose the garden from the North creating a sheltered 'courtyard' and kitchen garden as well as utilising ideal orientation for winter solar gain and on site renewable energy generation. Local stone cladding and clay peg roof tiles were specified to blend with the local vernacular and existing house while the larch timber cladding to the studio, porch and upper extension reflect a sense of rural barns and outbuildings.
