Aim: to provide a new family home on an existing brownfield site, within Hertford Town centre. The architectural design was required to be sensitive to the existing adjoining, Unlisted protected terrace, within the context of a conservation area.
We explored several different styles of architecture including more contemporary and stand alone, however the planning constraints and requirements for this particular site dictated a more traditional approach. Therefore we developed a design that matches materials, detailing and the rhythm of openings of the existing.
With a public sewer running adjacent to the existing terrace, an archway has been employed to echo the existing at the opposite end. The focus of this project is to deliver a beautifully detailed architecture with high quality materials. The interiors will offer a contemporary juxtaposition.
The project has now gained planning approval and is in RIBA 4 technical design stages.
